Jason Heller, L.Ac.
“I am inspired by the process and application of integrating body and mind medicine, ultimately treating the whole person.”
Jason Heller is the co-founder and lead practitioner at Shen Dao Clinic. He is a licensed professional who uses acupuncture, Tui Na, Craniosacral Therapy and other modalities to improve the health and well-being of his patients. Jason co-founded Shen Dao Clinic with his wife, Amara, in 2008 after studying under renowned medical professional Dr. Vince Black at the Four Winds Clinic. He also spent time studying and gaining practical experience through his internship at the distinguished Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. He brings his significant experience and calm demeanor to every patient he treats, creating customized therapies tailored to their unique needs.
Jason was born and raised in New York and had an active childhood biking, swimming, and playing soccer. He attended Towson University, competing on the mountain biking team and graduating with honors with a degree in Psychology. While attending Towson, Jason became a certified personal trainer and participated in internships at adolescent, adult, and geriatric inpatient psychiatric care facilities. Those experiences translated nicely to his post-graduation work at both the Flagstaff Medical Center and Tucson Medical Center. Jason spent seven years at the Tucson Medical Center, working full-time in their behavioral health division, leading therapeutic groups, and assisting with patient care.
While working in Tucson, he also discovered his love of yoga, fulfilling certification requirements to teach students at local studios. As Jason gained experience working with healthcare patients and yoga students, he found inspiration in integrative medicine. Integrative medicine promotes a harmonious balance between physical and mental systems. With that inspiration, Jason pursued fulfilling the prerequisites to attend medical school and ultimately study Integrative Medicine. Before starting medical school, he discovered Chinese medicine and the practice of acupuncture which correlated perfectly with his interest in implementing multiple tools to treat the whole person and not just a symptom.
In 2004, Jason enrolled full-time in the Master’s Program at the Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. During that time, he apprenticed with Dr. Vince Black, who introduced him to many systems and curricula of medicine and martial arts. In 2008, Jason and his wife, Amara, moved to Harrisonburg to be closer to extended family and to open a clinic for the local community. When he’s not working in the clinic or teaching martial arts, Jason enjoys getting outside and spending time with his family, bicycling in the Shenandoah Valley, walking his dog, practicing yoga and martial arts.
